Bandana Splits - Ricky Dee

Brooklyn based trio Bandana Splits are the latest group who have decided to take the 60s girl group formula of acts such as The Supremes and bring it to a 21st Century audience. Taken from their debut album, "Mr Sam Presents the Bandana Splits" is "Ricky Dee", which combines the girls' close harmony vocals with retro infused production, and an earworm inducing hook that will torment you for hours after hearing it.

Lucy Rose - Middle of the Bed

English singer-songwriter Lucy Rose has a real knack for making intelligent, emotive-folk of the sort that made Laura Marling and Emmy the Great so well known, so it was no wonder that she was asked to appear on Bombay Bicycle Club's last album. Now, she has released "Middle of the Bed," which will hopefully help to push her music into the stratosphere.

"Middle of the Bed" melds the styles of these artists with the hushed intimacy and production style of the xx, in this tale of a love doomed to failure. The repeated lyrics "you don't know my hand size" carries a very strong resonance indeed.

Very Truly Yours - Girls Tell You Secrets

Since 2008, Chicago based 5-piece Very Truly Yours have been producing their own unique style of dreamy indie-pop. Their song "Girls Tell You Secrets," with it's jangly guitars and 'just-bordering-on-twee' chorus, evokes memories of groups such Mazzy Star, Black Tamborune and The Carousel.

"Girls Tell You Secrets" is out now on 7" inch on Cloudberry Records.

Big Deal - Chair

The song "Chair" by London based duo Big Deal is one of those songs where you think you know what way the song is going, then it takes a u-turn down roads unknown.

If you based your opinion of the song based on the first 30 seconds, you would think the song was a cute female singer-songwriter song a la Laura Marling. However, after this, massive Dinosaur Jr guitars suddenly come in, accompanied by male harmony vocals, giving the song an extra bite.

The song is taken from their upcoming album "Lights Out", which is out on September 5th.

Beau & the Arrows - Levy

Alt-pop four piece Beau & the Arrows make the kind of effortless sounding pop music many groups would kill for. Their single "Levy", with its infectious guitar riff and striking boy/girl vocals, makes the band seem like the missing link between the Ting Tings and The Joy Formidable. And long may it continue.

Owl & Mouse - Roll Another

Sometimes, you don't need to over complicate music to make it engaging, as evidenced by London based Owl + Mouse. Essentially a solo project, the music is as simple as it can get, with just the voice and ukulele carrying an elegant, pristine beauty. The vocals bring to mind Emmy the Great, and there's a playful sense of cuteness beneath it all.
